I am in another club, can I come to join your club?

wp8f1dcb5f_0f.jpg

Yes, If you are fed up with the club you are in at the moment or it is too far to travel  or whatever reason we will welcome you into our club. Please remember that you will have to be part of the pit crew to start and be prepared to climb the ladder along with everyone else as a team and not an individual.

What is Motocross?

Motocross is a form of motorcycle sport or all-terrain vehicle racing held on enclosed off road circuits. Motocross is derived from the French, and traces its origins to British Scrambling competitions. The name "motocross" is a portmanteau derived from the words "motorcycle" and "Cross Country".

The team manager will pick the team for a race day. If you are not picked then you will automatically be in the pit crew - this is the best way to learn as you will be watching the races (gaining tips) and helping the riders with the bikes.

Who picks the team for race days?

You will be introduced to the team and the pit crew. You will be asked to quickly fill out a race members form and then get stuck in with the team and whatever they are doing at the time. Make sure you listen to the team members when talking about the races and practices as this is where you could pick up some handy hints for the future when you are racing.

What am I to expect when I turn up on my first meet?

Well I would love to say yes to everyone but this is a decision that you have to make yourself.

No! But you must be able to ride a bike!

Can I afford to do this sport?

Do I require a driving licence?

The simple answer to this is- If you can listen - then you can be taught! You are never too young or too old to be a part of our motocross team. Motocross is a family orientated sport, all of the races we have attended we have seen many young children helping their mums or dads prepare to race. We encourage the very young people as they like to help and they are our motocross future!  As regards to the older generation - it is never too late! Don’t give up before you have begun simply because you think “I’m too old for that stuff”

We have young  and older members in our team at present - So don’t let age stop you!

Are there any age restrictions to join the team?

We can supply all of the clothing that you will need for motocross. If you are in our team then we subsidise the kit quite heavily. This does not have to be bought straight away as it can be done over a process of time. Don’t forget  you will pay a lot less than Joe Blogg’s would in the street.

Where do I get the clothing?

Do I have to have a medical to join your team?

wp4d761c42_0f.jpg

You must understand that most people are not natural to motocross and you will need to practice, so please do not expect to be the best as soon as you get on a bike. We are here to help and tutor you, it does not matter if you fall off as all of have at some point, you have just got to get back on and go!

Will I be good enough?

If you do not have a bike of your own then you could use one of Getspeed's bikes, it is always better to have your own bike as you will get the feel of it and learn how to handle it. If you use one of our bikes then you have to get the feel of it each time you ride.

wp6483c81e_0f.jpg

Who’s bike will I use?

No, there are lots of things that you must learn before you get on a bike, Safety is paramount to us and therefore we must ensure you will be safe and letting you jump onto a bike straight away could be dangerous. We work on a first come first served basis where the pit crew are in line to race, you have to be a member of our pit crew before you can race - we have found this to be the fairest way!

If I sign up to your team will I be riding the next time we meet?

wp95a00715_0f.jpg

Yes, we are currently looking for females to join - although motocross is mostly dominated by males the female presence is growing quickly. Our team do not have any sexists issues at all!

Can I do the sport if I am a girl?

wp901e9c97_0f.jpg

If you are undecided then we would like to help make your mind up. Come along to the meets and the race days - you do not have to be a rider to be in our race team - you could just be part of the pit crew, we will not force you to do anything that you do not want to do. If then at a later date you decided you would like to have a go then we will encourage this and help where we can.

I am not sure if I want to do motocross - what do I do?

wp877724ee_0f.jpg

If you can ride a bike then you are half way there -  If you think about it everything seams hard if you have never done it before! It is like riding a push bike for example, once you have got the hang of it then it becomes easier and easier!

Is it hard to ride a motocross bike?

wp74eb4420_0f.jpg

We may do in the future but sorry to say - not at the moment.

Do you have a team for quad riding?

Yes of course - before we can get you do ride your bike you must become part of the pit crew first, this is to ensure that none of the team are pushed out in any way, this will give us chance to get to know you and your bike and also make sure that the bike is good for use - Safety First - Pleasure later!

I have my own bike - can I join your team?

wp636a9556_0f.jpg

The main benefit is that you will be part of a team and not left on your own to cope. Not only will you receive feedback on your riding by the other team members you will also be able to get really good discounts for your riding wear, labour and also parts through Getspeed.

What are the benefits to joining Getspeed’s race team?

wpb6344b70_0f.jpg

No, but if you have any conditions at all you must make the team manager aware of the fact - anything you may be allergic to, medication that you are currently taking. We will ask you to fill out a Medical Information form when you join our team - It is nothing to worry about it will just ask you your basic medical information and your doctors name/next of kin details etc.

No, but we must be made fully aware of it and you must carry a spare inhaler to give to the team manager when you are riding - just incase!

I have asthma, will this affect me doing motocross?

Well, we have all been there - where our parents will not allow something as it is “too dangerous”! We fully understand where your parents are coming from - they do not want to see you get hurt!! Nor do we for that matter! But when it comes down to it you are always better off having your parents behind you and supporting you in whatever you do.

I want to do Motocross but my parents don’t want me to - what can I do?

The worst thing you could ever do is kick up a fuss or say something like“Tuff I am going to do it wether you like it or not” . This is not the way!  If you do these things then you are pretty much sealing your own fate making your parents stand their ground. Parents love their children to bits and do not want to see them get hurt in any way - they are not doing it to spoil your fun - they simply care!! Try and talk with them and ask them what it is that they don’t like/understand about motocross - The biggest misconception is that  people think there are no rules or guidelines, they think it is just a case of jumping on a bike and going flat out round the track with everyone (novice and expert classes) This is wrong, whenever you practice or race you will be put in a class with other people with the same riding capabilities as yourself. There are many rules and regulations for motocross and we have one very strict rule - If you or your bike are unfit to race/practice we will not allow it! If you parents still have an issue  or they are unsure of any aspect to do with motocross please ask them to get in contact with us and we will do our best to help put their minds at ease! We can’t promise anything - but we will keep our fingers crossed for you!

Yes - We are not going to deny it - Motocross can be a dangerous sport. Although every care is taken with the bikes and the riders - inevitably there are accidents and people do fall off.  Most of the time the accidents happen as people do not listen to good advice and think they know best!

Motocross is statistically less dangerous than Base Jumping, Rock Fishing, Baseball, Horse Racing, Sky Diving, Mountaineering and Scuba Diving!

How dangerous is Motocross?

wp6ddb4a61_0f.jpg

If you have thought of a question please e-mail us and we will get back to you asap!

wpc915fa00_0f.jpg

Fear Not!!! You are joining a team, some team members do not have a car and others do - we always manage to arrange lifts etc - you will not be left out!

I do not have transport - How will I get to the tracks?

Yes - Fighting at a race or practice will get you booted along with:- Turning up to the race or practice drunk or on drugs, Dangerous behaviour, Disregard for other peoples property, Tampering with other peoples bikes, Bringing the Getspeed’s team name into disrepute, Failure to turn up to meets/races/training sessions as there are too many people who would like to be on our team to hold your place if you only want to do it now and again- if you have certain time constraints we are here to help - talk to us as we are very understanding. These are just a few of the rules but you will be filled in when you enquire or become a team member.

One golden rule - If you are not sure - Ask!!!

Are there any reasons why I would be kicked off your team?

Parents Please Read:-
Motocross racing is a great sport. It teaches discipline, coordination, the importance of preparation, goal setting, and the satisfaction that comes from racing as well as dealing with the disappointment of working hard but coming up short.
As in any sport that involves young people there are parents that sometimes push too hard for success. If you push too hard in motocross it can result in your rider and possibly other riders getting injured. Motocross is hardly as easy as the pro riders make it look. There are skills that will develop only with time and practice. If you stand on the side of the track and yell at your rider, they will not be able to hear you and you might distract your rider and cause an accident. It’s a good idea to step back occasionally and look at racing through your child’s eyes. Remember that the most important thing in racing is to have fun!
